January 2010 Newsletter

Dear Programmer Friends,

Happy 2010!

As the Festival world turns its eyes towards Sundance, New American Vision and The Film Collaborative are thrilled to announce that we'll be handling WORLDWIDE FESTIVALS for the Sundance World Competition feature UNDERTOW (CONTRACORRIENTE). This is the first of 15 films already signed to The Film Collaborative and we couldn’t be more proud to be involved with this beautiful, haunting, and romantic film.

Undertow
(Contracorriente)

About the Film:

In this unique ghost story set on the Peruvian seaside, a married fisherman struggles to reconcile his devotion to his male lover within his town's rigid traditions. Miguel (Cristian Mercado), a handsome young fisherman, and his beautiful bride, Mariela (Tatiana Astengo), are about to welcome their first child. But Miguel harbors a scandalous secret. He's in love with Santiago (Manolo Cardona), a painter, who is ostracized by the town because he's gay. After a tragic accident occurs, Miguel must choose between sentencing Santiago to eternal torment or doing right by him and, in turn, revealing their relationship to Mariela—and the entire village.

NEW FROM WOLFE RELEASING:

Wolfe has packaged together season one of this hit lesbian websiode series starring Cathy DeBuono, Jill Bennett, and Suzanee Westenhoeffer into a eighty-minute program sure to delight the ladies!

WE HAVE TO STOP NOW:
SEASON ONE

About the Series:

This off-beat, quirky love story features the sexy and dynamic talents of Cathy DeBuono (Dyna) and Jill Bennett (Kit) as two lesbian therapists as they struggle to keep up the pretense of their own marriage after the success of their book “How To Succeed In Marriage Without Even Trying.” Things get complicated when Kit’s stoner, and potentially bisexual, sister Cindy moves in after being evicted yet again. To make matters worse, a documentary film crew starts filming every single moment of Dyna and Kit’s home life, meaning no one’s secrets are safe.

ALSO NEW FROM WOLFE RELEASING…

We are once again including PLAN B to underscore its appropriateness for LGBT festivals…we apologize if the description in our December blast was unclear.

PLAN B

About the Film:

After he is dumped by his girlfriend, Bruno plans a cold, sweet vengeance: he befriends her new boyfriend Pablo with the idea of eroding the couple's relationship. Will he introduce Pablo to another woman, or go to Plan B… and seduce him himself? In this clever, witty and poetic first feature, Argentine director Marco Berger repurposes the conventions of a Shakespearean comedy as Bruno embarks on a perilous romantic journey that calls his own sexuality into question.

2009 | Argentina | 103 min.

writer & director: Marco Berger

formats available: 35mm, HDCAM, Betacam
