HOLLYWOOD, JE T'AIME

ABOUT THE FILM:

Biting Hollywood satire meets a melancholy search for love and acceptance in this sweet and surprising fish-out-of-water film. The story begins in wintry Paris, where our hero Jerome (Eric Debets) is down in the dumps. His ex-boyfriend has moved on with a new hunk and Jerome needs to escape from reality. Next stop? The city of Angels. As Jerome strives to forget his love back home, he searches for new experiences and connections on the strange, colorful streets of Los Angeles. Featuring gay icon Chad Allen as a West Hollywood stoner who helps Jerome audition for several low-level Hollywood acting gigs.

BEAUTIFUL DARLING:
THE LIFE AND TIMES OF CANDY DARLING,
ANDY WARHOL SUPERSTAR

ABOUT THE FILM:

Even amongst the oversized personalities of '60s/'70s New York, few shone as brightly as the transgender pioneer Candy Darling (1944-1974). Andy Warhol discovered her star power and cast her in his films; Lou Reed wrote “Walk on the Wild Side” and “Candy Says” about her; Tennessee Williams wrote her a starring role in “Small Craft Warnings”; and Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton and a young Robert Mapplethorpe photographed her ethereal beauty. How did a young boy from suburban Long Island become a stunning throwback of Hollywood glamour, poised at the nexus of art and fashion? And what was the ultimate price for this transformative act of self-creation? Using rare archival footage, excerpts from Candy’s personal journals and papers, and both archival and contemporary interviews, director James Rasin tells the compelling story of Candy’s journey toward one particularly outré American Dream, examining the apparent contradictions of Candy’s persona while exploring the universal question she so profoundly dramatizes: Who am I?

QFD (QUEER FILM DATABASE)
The QFD has been updated to include info for Official Cannes Selections: J’ai Tue Ma Mere and Eyes Wide Open, two films we’re very fond of. U.S. deals are pending. Spring Fever, which was in Competition and was already listed, was bought by Strand for the U.S. We’ve also added Off and Running, a wonderful doc by Nicole Opper that screened at TriBeCa and soon screens at Outfest. TriBeCa also showed an Israeli feature called A Matter of Size that while very charming, is not queer enough to belong here. There were a handful of other queer titles in the Marche du Cannes, but non which merit our including in the QFD, except for Plan B (distribution deal in the U.S. also still pending and it will soon have an International festival premiere).

and last but not least...

GLOBAL NON-PROFIT FILMMAKER DISTRIBUTION COLLABORATIVE
NAV is also launching a global non-profit distribution collaborative. Representing a culmination of the work we've been doing for the last five (5) years, this collaborative will draw upon our expertise in areas such as grassroots and niche marketing at film festivals and in distribution; collaboration with non-profit organizations and film festivals; and comprehensive distribution, marketing, and licensing/sales rep services for independent, art house/world cinema and especially niche and activist cinema. Additionally, we plan to expand our ongoing pioneering work on digital distribution to serve non-profit entities. By combining a built-in marketing network with an aggregated body of programmed and marketed film, the collaborative will help the work of filmmakers reach greater audiences and achieve the fullest possible distribution potential.

We are inviting filmmakers and industry professionals to weigh in on the mission, proposed structure, and overall functionality of the collaborative. We would also love the opportunity to keep you informed of our plans,...so please join our new NAV Facebook FAN page (note: our GROUP page will be going away at the end of the month).
