AND THEN CAME LOLA

ABOUT THE FILM:

In this sexy, lesbian romp, a talented, but distracted photographer, Lola, on the verge of success in both love and work, could lose it all if she doesn’t make it to a crucial meeting on time. But, as usual, Lola is late. With her job and girlfriend on the line, she has three chances to make it right. In a desperate race through the streets and backrooms of San Francisco, time grows short—will Lola make it? Will she come at all?

FERRON:
GIRL ON A ROAD

ABOUT THE FILM:

This film celebrates women’s music icon Ferron with stories, interviews and most of all music. Girl on a Road documents Ferron’s 2008 Vancouver concert as she reunites with her band and hits the road after a ten-year absence. A folk-rock singer songwriter often compared to Bob Dylan for her intricate lyrics backed by guitar-driven melodies, Girl on a Road is, above all, a snapshot of a survivor.

NAV FESTIVAL UPDATE

candy_still

NAV's recently announced film BEAUTIFUL DARLING: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF CANDY DARLING, ANDY WARHOL SUPERSTAR has recently accepted a WORLD PREMIERE engagement at one of the world's major international "jewel festivals," scheduled for early 2010.

This is GREAT news for the film, and heralds great success for the film, but as a result, we are not able to offer this film to Festivals at this time. Check back with us in 2010, we'll be sure you know where the world premiere is as soon as we are allowed to announce it.

For those of you who are really paying attention…YES it's true that the film played at CineVegas earlier this summer…but that was just a work-in-progress screening. The completed version hasn't been seen by anyone yet…so put it in your tracking lists for 2010!

BEAUTIFUL DARLING:
THE LIFE AND TIMES OF CANDY DARLING,
ANDY WARHOL SUPERSTAR

ABOUT THE FILM:

Even amongst the oversized personalities of '60s/'70s New York, few shone as brightly as the transgender pioneer Candy Darling (1944-1974). Andy Warhol discovered her star power and cast her in his films; Lou Reed wrote “Walk on the Wild Side” and “Candy Says” about her; Tennessee Williams wrote her a starring role in "Small Craft Warnings"; and Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton and a young Robert Mapplethorpe photographed her ethereal beauty. How did a young boy from suburban Long Island become a stunning throwback of Hollywood glamour, poised at the nexus of art and fashion? And what was the ultimate price for this transformative act of self-creation? Using rare archival footage, excerpts from Candy’s personal journals and papers, and both archival and contemporary interviews, director James Rasin tells the compelling story of Candy’s journey toward one particularly outré American Dream, examining the apparent contradictions of Candy’s persona while exploring the universal question she so profoundly dramatizes: Who am I?

COLLEGE BOYS LIVE

ABOUT THE FILM:

You may have paid to watch the sexy webcams, but you haven't really gone inside this infamous online party house until you see George O'Donnell's fascinating documentary. Meet "house mothers" Zac and Jonathan and their teen and twentysomething tenants—troublemaker J.C., heartbreaker Tim and fresh-out-of-the-closet Chuck—then see what happens when their neighbors rally to kick them out. Given the voyeuristic nature of documentary filmmaking, voyeurism itself makes for a compelling subject in this unpredictable and entertaining film.

FISH OUT OF WATER

ABOUT THE FILM:

In the spirited documentary FISH OUT OF WATER, filmmaker Ky Dickens explores the seven most notoriously homophobic Bible passages with the help of a group of theologians from across the religious spectrum. Presented as a mix of insightful interviews and endearing animation, Dickens’ discoveries are sure to shock, amaze and delight.

THE COLLABORATIVE: NAV'S GLOBAL NON-PROFIT FILMMAKER DISTRIBUTION COLLABORATIVE
NAV is also launching a global non-profit distribution collaborative: filmcollaborative.org. Representing a culmination of the work we've been doing for the last five (5) years, THE COLLABORATIVE will draw upon our expertise in areas such as grassroots and niche marketing at film festivals and in distribution; collaboration with non-profit organizations and film festivals; and comprehensive distribution, marketing, and licensing/sales rep services for independent, art house/world cinema and especially niche and activist cinema. Additionally, we plan to expand our ongoing pioneering work on digital distribution to serve non-profit entities. By combining a built-in marketing network with an aggregated body of programmed and marketed film, the collaborative will help the work of filmmakers reach greater audiences and achieve the fullest possible distribution potential. Filmcollaborative.org will be adding an interactive/networking interface in the coming months.

We are inviting filmmakers and industry professionals to weigh in on the mission, proposed structure, and overall functionality of the collaborative. We would also love the opportunity to keep you informed of our plans,...so please join our new NAV Facebook FAN page (note: our GROUP page will be going away at the end of the month).
