Orly Ravid, Co-President (Principal) is a 10-year industry veteran whose experience in film ranges from festival programming to acquisitions & domestic licensing and distribution, as well as business affairs and foreign sales. In 1998, Orly joined veteran boutique foreign sales company Amazing Movies & Highland Crest Pictures and launched the company’s Art House domestic distribution label.
Orly then joined Maxmedia, producers of Chen Kaige’s Cannes Selection Emperor and the Assassin and the Miramax/Dimension release The Others starring Nicole Kidman. At Maxmedia Ravid worked in production and development and created FilmFixx, the company’s domestic distribution arm that launched with the highly controversial film Baise Moi. Orly subsequently consulted for various independent distributors and filmmakers under her own label, Ravid Film Consulting. Orly launched Wolfe Releasing’s foreign sales, theatrical, and digital distribution arms and handled its acquisitions and business affairs.
In 2004 Orly co-founded New American Vision, a boutique niche marketing and distribution consulting service. New American Vision worked with distributors such as Wolfe, Kino, Think Film, and Roadside Attractions, film festivals such as LAFF and AFI FEST, organizations such as the International Documentary Association (IDA) and uniFrance, and independent filmmakers, such as Sundance selection END OF THE LINE and Berlinale Teddy Winner CITY OF BORDERS. Its services include: theatrical booking; general and niche marketing; licensing rights domestically and internationally, and digital distribution; and contract services.
From 2007–2009 Orly served as VP of Acquisitions and Distribution of publicly traded Berlin-based Senator Entertainment. Orly regularly moderates or speaks on panels at Sundance and other film festivals regarding new technology and digital distribution. Orly is presently also a Programming Associate for documentaries at the Sundance Film Festival and a Programming Consultant for Palm Springs International. Orly has served on the Board of Directors of Outfest Los Angeles Film Festival. Orly earned a B.A in English Literature and Film Studies at Columbia University and graduated with honors.
Jeffrey Fabian Winter, Co-President (Principal) comes to New American Vision with a background of more than fifteen years in the film industry, including significant experience in production, distribution, marketing, public relations, programming, film acquisitions, and film sales.
As co-president of New American Vision since 2004, Jeffrey has worked on the marketing and distribution of many hundreds of film titles across a spectrum of theatrical, non-theatrical, film festival, DVD, and digital platforms. Principal clients during this period have included the Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF); AFI FEST; Skirball Cultural Center; the International Documentary Association (IDA); Mexico's Gussi Films; the world's largest catalogue of LGBT-themed films, Wolfe Releasing; as well as numerous independent films. A brief overview of recent titles include the Sundance doc THE END OF THE LINE, Gussi's TIRED OF KISSING FROGS, HANNAH FREE starring Sharon Gless, Dee Mosbacher's doc TRAINING RULES, PERSEPOLIS by Marjane Satrapi, YOUNG @ HEART by Stephen Walker, Roadside Attractions' CARAMEL, and many others.
Since 1999, Jeffrey has also served as a panel programmer of the Sundance Film Festival's "New Frontier on Main" section (formerly known as the Digital Center), working in the areas of new media, new technology, and the applications for the independent filmmaking industry
Prior to NAV, Jeffrey managed U.S. strategic investments and U.S. production, acquisitions & distribution for the largest media conglomerate in Spain, under the well-known banners Sogepaq, Sogecable, and Sogecine. Representative films he has worked on during this period include THE OTHERS (directed by Alejandro Amenábar and starring Nicole Kidman); THE SEA INSIDE (2005 Oscar winner for best foreign film); Alfonso Cuaron’s Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN; Julio Medem’s SEX & LUCIA; and many others. During this period, Jeffrey has also developed, produced, and distributed several independent films under the independent banner of Maxmedia and Masquerade Films, including ground-breaking Korean animation feature SKY BLUE, which premiered in the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.
Jeffrey is the former principal of the San Francisco-based film/video production company Please Louise Productions, where he directed and produced commercial video for numerous companies including Microsoft, Lucas Films, and the California Bar Association; and created/produced the 38-part documentary series FLIQ VIDEO, in association with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and The United Way.
David Averbach, Creative Director, joined NAV in 2005, having previously worked with Jeffrey at Please Louise Productions. With over 15 years of experience in graphic marketing, graphic design, database design and web design, David's skill set combines a strong sense of visual design with a knack for problem-solving. Although often behind the scenes, he is instrumental in turning NAV's marketing objectives into creative strategies that have included key art design, poster design, print ads, web site design, social networking and email marketing, and, most recently, an iPhone App for AFI FEST 2009. David developed the key art for the Indian film HARI OM, the Brazilian film ALICE'S HOUSE, the Argentine film PROPER EYES and Jason Bushman's HOLLYWOOD, JE T'AIME. David handles all internal design work for the company, as well as The Collaborative, NAV's recently launched non-profit arm.
In addition to producing original art, David has also successfully extended existing branding/campaigns into new areas of niche marketing, working on the theatrical distribtion of films like CARAMEL an THE END OF THE LINE, and community outreach and media sponsorship for film festivals such as AFI FEST, THE LOS ANGELES FILM FESTIVAL and DOCUWEEKS.
David has a PhD in Japanese literature and film from the University of California, Berkeley, and has taught Japanese film at Berkeley and at the University of Washington in Seattle.
